Stockholm Institute of Music Pedagogy is one of Scandinavia’s best schools for prospective music teachers. With a brand that has not been updated in 40 years and a website created in 1997, there was a great need to re-do and re-position the brand to strengthen its position as a leading knowledge center for music teachers in the world.
BRAND PLATFORM | RHYTHM
A new brand platform was developed on the basis of what is the essence of SMI; To develop others, you have to develop yourself. A circle of learning that constitute a rhythm, the never-ending movement in which the student’s own artistic expression and educational practice enables each other.
VISUAL IDENTITY | ARTISTIC, DIVERSE, PREMIUM
The result was a platform based on rhythm, where the core values of artistic, diversity and premium was conveyed in a new visual identity. The old logo was changed for the first time since the 1960’s into an interactive and contemporary one.

The platform is currently being implemented.
Bits of the process
CLIENT WORKSHOPS | CONCEPT OF RHYTHM
Through several workshops on our own and together with the client and its students we developed a brand platform and a brand vision for SMI. The brand platform was transformed into three visual cues for us to build a visual identity upon: Artistic, Diverse and Premium. We found one big concept that could tie these three concepts together; The concept of Rhythm.

VISUAL EXPLORATIONS | 3D
We explored the concept of rhythm in different shapes, colors and movements; in 3D and static images. The explorations were based upon the sketches of rhythm from SMI staff presented above.
